So, the best example of how to handle your business you could give to your daughter was to sign something you didn't bother to read and/or understand? Gotcha...This is a great lesson to your wee lass that adults must read, ask questions and know what it is they're getting into.

She should also know not to expect empathy, sympathy or someone to "work with them" when they get into nonsense like this. Thanks for the lesson that other parents will be able to use and share.

In case you didn't get it, this is YOUR fault. This is the part where you say "you must work for them."

Acceptance Now - Do not purchase from them!

Details
I bought a $2, 000 couch. After paying nearly $800, I was given a balance due of $2200. I was one day late on my payment and they called my employer looking for me! The office staff are not trained, their language skills are questionable and I was ripped off. When I told the "collector" that I no longer wanted the couch, he told me to just drop it off at any Rent a Center! when I called Rent a Center, the manager was shocked because that is not the policy! (I have a truck and planned to drop it off immediately) The people at Acceptance Now located in the Bobs Discount Furniture in Lowell MA are horrible The couch is going back! I will never shop at Bobs Discount Furniture, or Acceptance Now again

LOL...You probably should keep the couch as you will be paying for it a long time and/or your not paying for it will be on your credit. This is your fault for not reading and understanding what you signed. Secondly, don't be a day late paying them as you said you would and they won't call you and anyone who you put down as someone not living with you.

Mr Anonymous (surprise), I 'm not actualkly surprised. The problem with your bias response is, when terms are verbally stated by the sales rep selling the furniture and there is no written disclosure of the terms presented, leaving out financing terms such as APR, interest rates, amortization schedule, length of the term and total amount that would be paid if the agreement is paid according to those terms, and the only thing you sign is a statement saying “I agree to the terms”, when the actual terms were never disclosed, most everyone in that situation assumes the rep is honest and the terms that were stated are the terms you are signing off on (since nothing else is presented).

So, although your argument, made based on little to no information relating to actual facts (making for an unintelligent argument, by the way) is in most cases the consumer is venting about (rightfully so), would be good if it was based on reality, is in fact irrelevant. You simply come across as if you have a vested interest in this company and feel the need to defend them. Your response has zero credibility and looks foolish. In many cases, the sales rep states the terms of the purchase verbally, suggesting much more attractive lease/loan terms than ActNow’s actual “exorbitant” terms, not only giving the rep a chance to make a sale with commissions higher than the furniture is worth, but making a sale that would not likely be occur if the terms are disclosed for the consumer to review, as legally required ,somewhat likely.

In a case like this, a rep is practicing what’s referred to as “non-disclosure”. Often, the terms would never have been agreed to had they been disclosed. These complaints suggest a pattern of these practices and I know of one case personally, firsthand. No matter the consumer’s credit situation, the ActNow terms are exorbitant beyond reason, especially on cheap furniture with exorbitant mark-ups to begin with and a lifespan significantly shorter than the length of the non-disclosed lease.

The quality of the furniture typically isn't worth the down payment. So, when its amortized at such exorbitant rates (a $2,000 purchase, after almost a year of payments, has a balance higher than the original purchase price - the principal hasn't been reduced at that point.... what???). These terms are supposed to be disclosed (legally required actually) so consumers can make educated decisions on their purchases based on facts.

Instead, many of these consumers are being “bait and switched” based on the case I am aware of along with the numerous complaints I have read. The complainants strongly suggest this is happening as they all seem to have had the same experience. It seems as if these young inexperienced, and needy consumers are being targeted (or even preyed upon) in this manner, based on the sheer volume of complaints with essentially the same experience. It strongly suggests there may be ethical and possibly legal responsibilities that are very possibly being neglected.

I would love to know how the salesman are incentivized (they seem to be rewarded to make such a deal), what commission rates are being paid for selling furniture in this manner (humungous margins), if they’re compensated to increase the sales price of the furniture), if the sales reps are compensated monetarily on the exorbitant margins of the ActNow’s lease agreement and if so, if they’re compensated on yield spread (a percentage of the additional revenues generated by the lease when the interest rate is increased) All this might be being added to the already exorbitant margins.

For salesman to get away with these types of business practices, it is typically a culture their employer and sales manager encourage and typically set the precedence, based on my experience. Peace

Here's what you do, pul your contract and show them the "work with me clause" and they'll take care of you. If you don't have a clause like that, all they have to go by is the contract you signed.

This means you have to learn to budget if you want to make your notes on time. Another thing is to cut off whatever you're using to post this nonsense and pay your note off quicker.

Acceptance Now - I've been robbed!!!

I bought a bed, a dresses and a mattress. The total cost was $2,200.00 something. I've been paying for two years $214.00 and I still owe more than $1,500.00. They opened a credit line for 5,000.00 dollars and because I could not pay all in 90 days, they charged me with the entire line. I am paying for the firniture plus the remaining amount up to $5,000. 00. My question is, what is the interest? 500%, 800%? This is the most abominal and fresh robbery with license from the state of Florida that I've ever seen. They need to investigate this. How am I going to re pay three times what I took. Oh, and thybalso charge you for the membership. No wonder why they are so successful.

"Little did we know " Translation: Either I didn't bother to READ or UNDERSTAND what I put my name to. How could you have not known this was a lease thing?

It says it right there on the website...As far as having you in their "tight grips," did they roll out Luca Brasi and have him hold a gun to your head and forced you to sign that which you didn't read nor understand? At the end of the day, does it really matter that it's a lease(that you can buy out) when you haven't paid in months. How can you even fix your mouth to whine when you weren't paying anyway. As far as harassment, they want their money.

It's simple! With regards to the horror stories, the only story you need to worry about is being sent out to collections, sued and find your wages garnished. You'll have a judgment on your credit which is probably terrible anyway. As far as your cop neighbor is concerned, NO ONE CARES about them.

First off, this is a civil matter. Secondly, do you really want to tell your neighbor you're a serial deadbeat who doesn't pay their bills or have enough sense to READ & UNDERSTAND what you agreed to. OK, this is the part where dead beats say "You must work for them" or "Not everyone can pay their bills on time like people with a silver spoon" or you'll be talking some lame class action nonsense.

The only thing your post is good for is to warn others to be sure they know what's going on before they sign anything. Thanks for that...

Run-on sentences, no punctuation and the VERY OBVIOUS fact you didn't even bother to READ what you agreed to when you signed the contract, you whining deadbeats aren't the brightest bulbs in the socket. Let me urge you to get a second grader to write for you!

They learned how to write sentences and when to end them with a period. You come here throwing your temper tantrum and acting surprised at the cost, when the cost was shown in the contract BEFORE you even agreed to it! Anybody with COMMON SENSE would have READ that before they agreed to it!

Amazing! Before I forget, this is where you can write back and say, "you must work for them".
