Sold my car prior to deadline date.

My car was repossessed by RAC in October because I was two months behind in my payments. I have been out of work for 3 years and receiving no unemployment.

Since May I was caring for my sister who was suffering from terminal cancer. At the time of the repossession and immediately thereafter, my sister was literally dying. She passed away two weeks after the repossession. I immediately contacted an attorney and determined I would file a Ch.

13 in order to redeem my car. I called RAC and advised them within 2 days that I was filing Ch. 13. They told me to call back with a case number after I had filed.

I have letters received from RAC indicating that the deadline for redeeming my car was 12/10/12 - - next Wednesday! Yesterday, 12/5/12, I called RAC Bankruptcy Center and advised that I would be filing that day. My attorney filed the documents and faxed a letter indicating I had filed and providing the case number by 3:00 p.m. He then talked to someone at RAC Bankruptcy who advised the sale would be stopped and the location of my car.

Today we learned that my car has been sold at auction. It was sold some time yesterday. I might add that my car is in excellent condition, low mileage, a very sharp car. If my car cannot be retrieved, which my attorney doubts it can, I will sue RAC for damages and will demand the value of my car, plus punitive damages.

They are in breach and violated federal and state laws. This is causing me a great deal of emotional stress on top of the enormous grief I am experiencing because of the death of my sister. I know they don't care if my whole family died. In the end, it is business.

I might add, because of my poor credit history, my loan was at 14% simple interest. ***, but I didn't even realize it was simple interest until months later. I have paid for that car a couple of times over and now this happens.

I am beyond sick and outraged.

FYI: "REGIONAL ACCEPTANCE" does car loans etc. RAC Acceptance is a different company and they generally deal in furniture and household items.

No satisfaction

On september 29th 2012 i was approved for some furniture with RAC Acceptance inside of furniture deals furniture store. Delievery was setup that following Monday betwen 1p-4p they came out out to delieverd the furniture after 1 unfortunately i was not home at the time of delievery i called to see if they would come back to my home before 4pm they said No. I needed to pay another delievery fee of $59.99 to bring it out the next day. I said no i already paid for delievery once. So i decided to cancel the whole agreement. And wanted my money refunded back to me. It took 4 weeks to get my money. After calling the corporate office numerous time for a *** check. When i paid cash. They were not professional in satisfying the customer. Someone just drove out to my home to my home to deliver my money. When they could have done that weeks ago. It was a lesson learned and neve again! I will go to furniture deals directly.

yea when you pay cash, you get a refund check. That's the way of the world.

Even at best buy or walmart, if you spend over 200-250 they dont give you cash back for a refund they request a check from corporate and it usually takes 2 weeks to get there. Sounds like your people just forgot to request a check and that's why it took longer.

RAC does it again.

I got lied to at the dealership when they told me the only company I qualified for was RAC. Then they told me as I was signing papers that I had to pay $750 up front because me credit was bad and since they couldn't charge me a higher interest rate, that I had to pay interest up front. It was explained that this is how RAC get around the usury rates set by states. Now I am late by two months, my fault, and I'm trying to make arrangements to get caught up but no one will accept my offer. The managers are too busy to talk to me, probably off for the day, so the only alternative is for them to repossess the car. BBT should be proud of their purchase of some crooks who used to only have a buy here pay here lot that got too big and now reaps *** on everybody. I'm boycotting any dealership that uses BBT or RAC in the future. I'm declaring war on both companies.

Probably honest mistake - appears you are confusing "REGIONAL ACCEPTANCE" with "RAC Acceptance." Regional Acceptance does car loans etc. RAC Acceptance is a different company and they generally deal in furniture and household items.

Avoid RAC like the plague

I paid a loan off in Oct 2011. RAC inaccurately reported the status on Oct 2011 as "reposession" even though the loan was paid off. I have tried to work with them for 10 months to correct the error but they have refused to remove the entry. I disputed the status with the credit bureaus twice but Regional Acceptance continues to re-submit the account as a reposession. I am lucky enough to afford an attorney and have filed a law suit since this experience has hurt my ability to get a loan on a house. I encourage everyone to treat this company like a disease and stay far away.

UNACCEPTABLE RAC ACCEPTANCE

this company has the Worst customer service, very Rude Unprofessional and appears to be Uneducated. this company tries to milk you dry to make a payment and it takes three days to create an account to pay your bill without any fees. rac acceptance is a RIP OFF and BEWARE VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please do not deal with this company and avoid it at all cost. The interest goes up daily and only a very small portion goes to your monthly payments.

Also, the comments from employees are totally bogus. Read more reviews and you will see many of them worded exactlly the same with the name changed. The business model is to reel you in with wording such as "pick what you want and build your credit" and employees are trained to be as vague as possible with answers IF THE THE POOR SAP BUYING THE ITEM EVEN ASK ANY. Most times customers dont ask question until there is an issue.

There business model is a kin to title loans and companies like PLAIN GREEN.

There are laws in each state to protect comsumers from these outrages interest rates but the state of TX, where the coompany is located does not have very good laws in this regard. PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF THIS COMPANY AND FIND ANOTHER WAY TO FURNISH YOUR HOME OR APARTMENT- pay cash; you can always earn cash by selling *** to folks over 40.

Picked up there furniture when only 20 days behind

RAC inside the furniture stores, my contract clearly states 60 days past due than they will come get their furniture. I was only 20 days past the due date; I explained to them I had lost my job and that I would pay both payments on Dec.31st; but instead of trying to work with me about anything they get pissed off cause I stopped answer the phone when they was calling me 20 times a day and I was telling them the same thing so I didnt see the point of answering the phone anymore.

When you purchase the furniture and sign all the paperwork you get a benefit thing that says your payments are covered if you lose you job; but they didnt care about discussing that.

It was poor service from the first day and I will never purchase anything through them. God forbid if they happen to lose their job and only get behind on bills by a few weeks.

all I have to say is if you paid your *** it wouldn't have been taken from you. if you lost your job " involuntarily " you would qualify for unemployment.

Put you pride aside and apply for unemployment - if that's ALL you have to do to get those ppl to pay your *** then do it! Lastly people don't get fired for no reason.

Hi- I work at RAC and I can shed some light on your situation. Number one when you decided to stop communicating with the store that is when the decision was made to pick up your furniture.

Number two, it is your responsibility as a functioning adult to make the proper decisions, such as actually going to the store when you lost your job, and I will stress communication again. If you had called the store from day one of losing your job to inform them they would have worked with you, had you come in to fill out the paperwork for Benefits Plus Involuntary Unemployment Payment Waiver, in which they would have submitted to Benefits Plus for review.

Now, if you read the fine print in the Benefits Plus book you would see that it is NOT an automatic approval, and that you are only able to be approved in the first place if your on unemployment.

In the future it's best that you read over any contract you sign, seeing as I don't even think you where aware that the merchandise is NOT your's until you pay off the merchandise.

Its crazy that I could pay that pmt if I actually got an unemployment check and wouldnt need the coverage.

You're rude and a ***.....these people pay a lot of money for your cheap furniture and you know youre ripping them off. Then, you want to take their furniture...big scam....so you can resell it.

RAC ACCEPTANCE CORP PREDATORY LENDING PRACTICES

Lied every month for 7 months about my payoff amount. I was very leery about doing business with a company such as RAC but the manager at the time seemed to be honest about my purchase and the payment options so I took a chance. Big Mistake! Every month that I have made my payment over the phone I have paid into a "Suspense Fund". I was told that by putting money in this fund that I could pay my items off much sooner. Even though I have verified my payment amount, current balance, and suspense fund amount on hand each and every month, now after 7 months of paying extra I have been told that my balance is close to what it was when I started. They lied to me each and every month about how my payments are applied. Today I spoke to their District Manager and he verified the higher amount as being my true balance and payoff. I complained to him and his first response was; "We have a signed contract!". Wow! Really?? What a joke RAC is! I wouldn't recommend buying anything from this company. They are Liars!!

I purchased $13K of furniture from Value City in Cordova, TN. Paid $10K on my AMEX, and financed balanced with RAC (90 Days same as cash was intent).

Attempted to setup auto pay on the Epay site, but contract # was not accepted. Contacted Kimberly @ store and she claims the DM re-wrote the initial contract due to error on her part and deleted the original one that I signed. Note: This was on February 1, and I was just informed that there was a new contract # on Wed, 04/26. I have not signed anything to date.

Kimberly offered to "come by my house with the new agreement for me to sign". I think not!!! I was in the hospital for 10 days following knee replacement and they were aware, yet they called all of my references, multiple times daily.. For what?

Because my March payment was not accepted because it was a certified check from Chase Bank. Get this-They don't accept certified funds.

Well, last night I simply paid the balance in full. We'll see what they call about now??

@Anonymous.. I work for RACacceptance and I assure we are thoroughly open about how our program works...

Although you unfortunately have those who cut corners, however that is every company... I tell my customers about how they would pay 3.5 times what they have financed... As for calls we only call references if your 7 days past due and we call you after you miss your payment to follow up not harass you... Pay your bill on time there won't be issues...

Don't judge a company as a whole just because you didn't like your experience.... I enjoy my job very much cuz I help people purchase items they wouldn't get through other lenders...

This comment is to LOL, some consumers cannot afford to pay for their purchases with cash, I'm assuming by your comment you have that luxury! I do agree that this so called company that is yes, owned by Rent A Center, is the biggest rip off that has come down the pike in a long time.

People should read the fine print, do not purchase the Benefits Plus it just adds 13.77 to your payment every month and all it gives you is coupons! For all of you that are caught up in the RAC scam, good luck, try to pay it off ASAP! There are many companies out there that deal legally and honestly, you need to do your homework. They discriminate also practice illegal business.

I can prove everything I say! So believe me DO NOT sign on the dotted line.

I went to purchase a bedroom set from rtg on April 13. I have used their in house credit before throus.

gh trs. But the last time I purchased furniture rac had taken over for trs. This has never been an issue because I always paid it off within 30 to 60 days. I lost my job on April 24.

My furniture was delivered on the 20th of April. Needless to say I have been harassed ever since. It got to the point thatmy references were harassed daily. I had an opportunity to review my contract which I see now is so very illegal.

What I do know is that the penalties on a suit for mis handling consumers for a debt weighs more than the cost of my furniture.

Thank you fair credit reporting act! They broke a lot of rules!

Your absolutly correct, they have to many issues and excuses for things. They are rip off's no one should ever get involved with them.

It's a good thing you were able to pay it off, because you would have been paying forever...They also do things illegally so watch yourselves before signing on the dotted line. DO NOT sign up for Benefits Plus its another rip off, cancel if you have it.

Its an extra 13.77 / mo. It does nothing for you, it just puts more $$$ in their pockets!

Derrick Avant sex offender

I recently went into the RAC Acceptance kiosk in Cleos furniture in Hot Springs Arkansas and happened upon Derrick Avant. He sexually assaulted my niece when she was locked up in the local jail.

What kind of people do they hire? He took her out of her cell, handcuffed her and put her in a broom closet. he returned and told her if she wanted extra food, she should be quite. Mr avant then began to *** on my niece.

Whay *** they have working for them. How does a company like RAC miss hiring a registered sex offender like this??

I have had nothing but terrible experiences with RAC at the Hot Springs store. I have dealt with Mr.

Avant on several occasions and have witnessed his leery stares at young women. This man needs some serious counseling or meds to prevent the behavoir I have seen him exhibit.Mr. Avant kies to customers and doesnt follow up on promises to allow me to pay.

I guess this is the best he can do with limited education and immature emotional stability.

He probably was axed for inappropiate behavoir with a female inmate, I can only guess from the actions I have witnessed. ***

There seems to be some validity to thatguys claim. Derrick wasn't charged with a crime, just let go from his job because of an allegation from a credible witness.

Everyone is scrambling to coverup for him.Why? The area manager could lose their job? the district manager could be reprimanded? I don't know, nor do I care.

Ok this whole thing is silly and childish! Derrick Avant is a wonderful RAC manager and has done nothing to deserve being drug threw the mud.

Not knowing who posted the original post I will say this that the whole inmate thing was a rumor! Derrick was and is a wonderful person that cares about his employees, coworkers, and customers. How someone can post something like this is beyond me, you are talking about a man that puts everyone else before himself and asks nothing in return. To the childish idiotic person that wrote this grow up and stop trying to spread rumors that will effect someones life, job, and family.

The original poster is a disgruntled ex-employee that has been doing his best to make this guy's life ***. Thatguyinhs was fired from RAC acceptance himself for a variety of reasons, most of which include verbally assaulting his fellow employees and using racial slurs, as well as threatening physical harm and trying to blackmail other employees.

Thatguyinhs actually started at Cleo's before Mr. Avant was even a RAC acceptance employee, and he was subsuquently shuffled to another store after confrontations with his fellow employees. RAC does though background checks before hiring.

Making a post like this doesn't help Thatguy save face after being fired for being so unprofessional. That's just his victim mentality looking for somewhere to place the blame for it when all he needs to do is have a look in the mirror.

RAC Acceptance Liverpool NY

They harrass everyone on your contact list multiple times a day if you are even one day late on your payment. They ALWAYS get the $ owed yet continue to harrass EVERYONE on my contact list. NEVER USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!! This is the worst service EVER. Rude people horrible service. Harrassment daily. All I want now is my pay off so I NEVER have to deal with this company again. So much for using a company that "helps" you in a time of need. Biggest mistake ever. I used them from the RT 31 Value City Furnature Store. The store is nice but using RAC acceptance in their store is a BIG mistake....

They are told to call you 1 day late if its your 1st payment other than that they legally have to wait 3 days to call for payment if its after you have made a payment before, they are not to call your references unless you don't respond to them after a certain amount of time!

Fee for using credit/debit over the phone

I have been a customer of RAC for quite a number of years. I am PISSED because for years I have called in my payment without fail and am considered a "GOLD" customer, I live in a very rural area and don't go into TOWN very often so calling it in is the best method now I'm told that I will be charged a fee for doing it by phone. I know they want me in the store or online with them but if they charge me for phone service they have just lost a very loyal customer because there are plenty of other rent to own companies that would love to have my business. BAD MOVE RAC.

every other place charges to use over the phone...it takes money to keep phone lines up, especially landlines in a business. It's called keeping the company afloat so you dont end up having to pay your debt to a collector when the business goes under....jeez lady it's a 1.50 fee, are you that broke?? Other place scharge 16 dollars...(yes im a customer i know how it's done, I'm also not *** enough to think that just bc i shop somewhere that it means i'm special)

RAC Acceptance lied to me about thier program

I went into Rooms to Go in Ft. Myers Fl ,was set up with RAC Acceptance, when doing the contracts they have a program called Benefits Plus, which says it is optional, I was told I had to take it to get approved, it was more money per month I told him I did not want it again,he explained that it went along with thier contract I had no choice, later after reading all of the paperwork that I signed I went back telling him to take it off, he said we would have to cancel the agreement. I already had my furniture and did not want to give it back, so I felt I had no choice.

Well my people, personally I think that the RAC ACCEPTANCE PROGRAM is a FOB type of ?program to engage more people into it so they can be able to pay a constant salary to their employees. Honestly, that is my opinion. I was never explained that I have to be paying (taxes, rent and liability) in something that I bought!!!!!/after about 12 months someone told me that and I added "I don't need LIABILITY OR RENT IF I ALREADY BOUGHT THE FORNITURE!!) believe me, this is very confused to me/just don't get into that trap.

The only thing you don't pay taxes on is food hun . Maybe next time you should read your agreement first before jumping into an agreement you can't afford to pay.

A Company like RAC Acceptance is design to take advantage of the poor... why because rich don’t rent or put things on layaway. Rac Acceptance is really “Renter Center” they change their name to deceived people…you go buy a bed for $2000 and your monthly payment is 180 and out of 180, 20 dollars goes throwers the amount that you pay to own the bed…by the time you realize what you got yourself into its too late… its either lose the amount of money that you paid so far or continue paying…and by the time you get to own the bed you paid $7000…its freaking nuts…but people fall into there trap.

The exact same thing happened to me, however when I asked why the payment was so high he couldnt answer me. I paid the first month and then when I couldnt get a straight answer I called and spoke with the district manager.

By reviewing my paperwork they not only charged me for Benefits Plus but also the insurance. The mgr of the local store says oh well if you don't have renters insurance you have to have this, I said "fool I have homeowners insurance" you don't know jack or obviously think you are talking to a light weight know nothing. The District Mgr not only removed both from my account but he also gave me credit for paying both from the first month. When the mgr called me for my next payment I purposely lied to him and said "I will be in today" that went on for 2 wks then I finally answered his call again to make the payment over the phone and he got smart and said "you could just give us a courtesy call" I went off, hung up in his face he calls back leaves a message saying ' you contract just ended, we will be by to pick up the furniture" ha!

now I'm laughing, was he going to break in? LOL!!

I call the DM again he not only apologized for his pathetic employee but he moved my account to another location and they have been very friendly. #dontmesswithtexas

Just to let you know it does not matter that you already had your furniture, Benefits Plus is an optional program. By law if you request that you want it taken off your contract they must comply.If he threatened you by telling you the agreement would be null and void, he is wrong!

Just because you were told to sign something against your will,that's also illegal. If I were you I would first start by speaking with their corporate offices, explained how you were treated and threatened. If you get no where, you call a lawyer. It states in black and white this is optional you do not have to purchase the program, and by him trying to tell you differently is against corporate policy!

Don't let him get away with this. They cannot take back your furniture, over Benefits plus only if you don't make your monthly payments.

I am a RAC manager in Illinois. Not all of us are bad people.

I am actually truthful with how the program works. I apologize for my coworkers across the country. I could easily sell more people by lying but I prefer to tell the truth. Everything is mapped out though in the contract, waiver form and benefits plus form.

You should always read what you are signing and not just go by what the person tells you.

Make sure you read everything and ask questions.

RAC Acceptance has helped a lot of my customers but that is because I am up front only sign people that understand everything.

Delivered damaged furniture

My fiancee and I purchased a bedroom set that was suppose to be brand neew from RAC. When the dresser was delivered i noticed that one of the legs on the dresser was completely broke. I called them to inform them that it was damaged and the sent someone to my house to look at the furniture. The 1st thing he said before he seen it was let me look to see if we can gorilla glue it together. I told him I don't want any gorilla glue on some so called brand new furniture. When he finish looking at the furniture he told my fiancee that the whole dresser need to be replaced and he would reoprt his finding to RAC well needless to say no one reported anything and when I called to find out what was going on they didnt even remember who the guy was that came to my house and asked me if i remember(grant it this was almost 30 days later). Everytime my fiancee or myself called the company to see when they were going to replace my dresser they kept saying we're aware of the situation and we're looking into it we spoke with 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Needless to say almost 3mnths later now they want to finally call and tell me they have the part to replace on my dresser but don't forget the repair man told my fiancee it couldnt be fixed. I make my payments on time every month except the last payment I took my time because I felt like the same way you expect for me to pay my bill on time I expect to have my situation resolved in a timely manner. No one bothered to call and let me know of any progress, the only time I heard from them is when we called them. In a nutshell I'm extremely disappointed in how the employees working for this company conducted business in handling my situation and I will be returning the furniture back to them in the next week.

Just to let you know the host store meaning the furniture store that RAC works out of is responsible for fixing your furniture, but to your defense Rac reps hould have contacted the furnitue stores customer service dept. and had set up for the fix or replacement . But for them not to be responsible enough to keep yu informed of the progress of your situation just goes to show, that once you sign on the dotted line they aren' interested in your problems just your payments!

RAC Acceptance lied to me about thier program

I went back in there to make my payment, and to cancel their so called Benefits plus, then I asked about a woman who was wonderful, What happenned to her? The manager told me that she was fired on the pretence that there was a customer complaint, he went on further to say that the woman was not fired for that instead told me that she took medication, and went to a physiciatrist. First of all that is illegal to tell people person medical things. I contacted the past emolyee and let her know, I hope she sues them. I will be a witness along with my husband and son.

RAC ACCEPTANCE IS RACIST!!

I went in to purchase furniture through RAC Acceptance and the white lady, Amy Rice in there that worked for Rac Acceptance was very rude to me. The whole time she was explaining to program to me she used a very disrespectful tone. The District Mnager is rude to Jeremey Bates. RAC Acceptance as a whole is very disorganized they tack on an extra $200 for even going through their program, then give you ridiculous price and have 90 days to pay it off or you start to accrue interest back from the first day you signed your agreement. DO NOT GO TO RAC ACCEPTANCE INSIDE OF VALUE CITY FURNITURE ON WARREN RD.!!

I purchased a living room set a dinette set and I was informed that I had not paid for the chair I make my payments on time and RAC is akin to a used car lot never again :(

My husband and I are mexican and Amy was very nice to us we just bought a living room set from them. I understand where she might have been coming from though, I am rude to idiots as well.

I made a purchased from the thrive tablet and the sales person talked me into purchasing what they called insurance at the time but later I found out it was an extended warranty. Although I was misled they will not cancel the warranty that I paid over a hundred dollars for.
